MDEBIKES are collaborating with the university of Padova (Italy), test on Crab frame Mechanical stress study on a DH and Freeride frameset and components:
We are collaborating with the department of mechanics of the university of Padova, with a research intended to measure the stress on the frame and components generated by free-ride and downhill activity. This study is supervised by Prof. Petrone. The work is carried thru by the students Amdrea Giro and Nicola Mutinelli. This work will produce data, which will then be used as reference for establishing norms for this kind of products. Together to MDEBIKES, several other companies are taking part to this study: MARZOCCHI, FORMULA, MAVIC, SRAM, TRUVATIV, GEAX. Professor Petrone has quite a bit of experience with material tests and on bicycle components tests. He has developed this experience after several years of experience in the motorcycle and cycle industry as well as the sporting goods industry (skis, snowboard, inline skates,.). He collaborates with UNI (The Italian branch of ISO) establishing technical norms for the cycling components. These norms allow the manufacturers to improve their products and to the consumers to use safer and more performing products. In the cycling industry, so far, the studies were more focused on the XC and Road race products. Due to the continuing development of our industry and due to some shortcomings in the current norms, they have contacted us asking for supporting this activity intended to be focused on DH and Free ride. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of the alumni, Andrea Giro e Nicola Mutinelli the work has begun and the results showed up. Hereafter you can find some pictures of the preparation work of the bicycle and of the first sessions of data acquisition. He work is in progress. We will keep you posted on the future developments and on the most significant results.
Data acquisition section:

Here you can find some pictures of the data acquisition activity. We are planning some test also with our factory riders for the most extreme situations and applications. We are also looking for companies willing to take part to this activity with the tin order to give to the study a correct financial support.
